What is the best head unit for the Elise Audio System?

The Elise Audio System can be combined with every car stereo head unit that is equipped with a 2ch (or 4ch) preamp output. We strongly recommend a head unit with a CD or MD mechanism in order to take full advantage of the sound performance of the audio system. The sound quality of cassette decks or tuners isn’t sufficient.

Is it possible to combine the Elise Audio System with amps from other manufacturers?

No - that’s definitely not possible. Our System is a complete solution with active crossovers and car specific parametric filters, which can’t be separated from the used output power stages.

Is it possible to buy the subwoofer box by itself?

Sorry, but this isn’t possible and does not make any sense. If you combine the subwoofer with a normal amplifier, it will sound boomy and lacks precision. The amplifier module of the Elise Audio System contains several specific filters and equalizers for the sub which you won’t find in any amp available on the market.

My head unit has already an integrated amp with 4x50 watts. Why won’t it be used in the Elise Audio System?

Sorry to say that, but the up to 4x50 watts mentioned on the gift box of your head unit is simply marketing “bullshit” and far away from reality. In best case it is possible to achieve 4x20 watts @ 4 ohms at 1% THD. The Elise Audio-System is much more powerful and comes with 230 watts total output power at 1% THD.

The original speakers have a diameter of 160mm. Why are smaller speakers used in the subwoofer?

We make use of long-throw 130mm drivers which allow in combination with a very compact vented box a deep and powerful bass response. These small drivers are able to produce sound pressure levels of 110 dB, even below 100 Hz.

Perfect sound even at top speed - is that possible?

You know the sound pressure level in an Elise when driving at top speed? Then you can imagine that even the most powerful speakers and amps won’t be able to compensate that noise level. But the Elise isn’t made for long distance turns on the highway but country roads with lots of curves, where the average speed is much lower. Up to 130 km/h (80 mph) the Elise Audio System offers excellent sound performance.

The battery of the Elise is rather weak. Is it possible to use the audio system without running the engine?

The efficiency of the amplifier module of the Elise Audio System is high so that the battery isn’t stressed very much. The average power consumption is less than 30 watts (at medium volume levels). When the system is turned on (but without any input signal) the consumption goes down to only 6 watts. The turned-off system consumes less than 1 milliwatt (1/1000 of a watt), which is next to nothing.

Why are the used speaker cables so thin?

Speaker cables are made from copper - and copper is heavy. We only use the wire gauge which is necessary to avoid power and sound losses. Furthermore all wire lengths are reduced to the max.

Finally some facts and figures...
